“Heraldik i Riksarkivet”

Henrik KLACKENBERG, Heraldik i Riksarkivet (Riksarkivet, Stockholm, 2025, 236 pp.)

Dr. Henrik KLACKENBERG, former Swedish State Herald and current Vice-President of the Académie Internationale d’Héraldique (AIH), has written an informative volume about the armorial material that can be found in the collections of the National Archives (Riksarkivet) in Stockholm.

In this extremely richly illustrated guide, the heraldic sources of the National Archives are presented for the first time. It covers everything from medieval seals and the many coats of arms of the nobility in the Early Modern period to municipal coats of arms and heraldry in advertising posters from modern times. Preserved sketches also provide an insight into the work of former Heralds of the Realm in creating new arms. The book is intended as a guide for anyone interested in this cultural heritage and is divided into three chronological sections: 1200-1550, 1550-1900 and 1900-2000. A great number of coats of arms of foreign origin are also presented.
